Hydrodermabrasion can be performed to gently exfoliate the skin by removing the outer layer of dead skin cells and can improve the skin's overall appearance. Hydrodermabrasion creates a smoother texture and appearance of the skin and allows greater absorption of topical products. ​Hydrodermabrasion is performed with a diamond-tip handpiece and moving it along the skin surface "scrub off" the dead skin cells and suction them up at the same time while cleansing the skin simultaneously with a chemical exfoliant solution or hydrating solution.
